I like to talk about books. Not literature, books. Sometimes this leads me to pop-culture madness like The Hunger Games but sometimes this leads me to near-Pulitzer gold like Karen Russell’s Swamplandia! In this lovely novel, Russell gives us the tale of a family of alligator wrestlers in turmoil. They are fun to spend some lazy summer afternoons with but not quite Pulitzer worthy.

As a nonfiction writer I don’t tend to get too wrapped up in POV issues and structural choices/complications. That said, there are some issues of consistency here. I get the feeling our dear author changed her mind on the direction of the narrative halfway through and never got the chance to smooth out all the ripples.

Still, you should read it. Then we can talk about it.
